Take your alphabet activities to the next level with these adorable letter matching clip cards. This free printable helps kids master letter recognition from A-Z. They’ll also be matching uppercase and lowercase pairs. As an added bonus, squeezing and positioning the clips also helps to build fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Using The Letter Matching Clip Cards
These cards are a breeze to set up. Simply print them and cut them apart. They print out 4 to a page, and the pages can be stacked for quicker cutting. After cutting, you can take the extra step of laminating them if desired.
With this activity, I personally prefer to save the plastic and skip laminating. It’s so quick to set up, you can easily print one of our other adorable themes when this one wears out. That will also help to keep things seasonal and fresh.
Once the cards are ready, shuffle them and place them in a pile in the center of the table. If you are working with a group, you may prefer to scatter some across the table or use multiple piles for easy access. Of course, each child will also need a handful of clips to work with.
Begin by having the student identify the uppercase letter at the top of the card. Then, have them place one of their clips on the matching lowercase letter at the bottom of the card.

If your student is ready, you can also ask them to identify the most common letter sound for each letter. For vowels, asking for the long and short vowel sounds is a fantastic idea.
Once students know how to use the cards, this makes a great activity for centers or independent work. You can also make it a partner activity where one student says the object name, and the other clips the letter. Have the students switch roles for each card.

Adapting the Letter Matching Clip Cards For Differing Needs
These cards come with leveled answer choices to make differentiation a snap. You can choose between having 2 or 3 answer choices across the bottom of the card. Kids can even start with 2 answer choices and work their way up to 3 as their skills progress.
For kiddos with fine motor challenges who won’t be able to manipulate the clothespins, be sure that the cards are laminated. This way, they can use dot markers or bingo daubers to mark the matching letters. For even more support, try these easy grip handles that you can loop over the markers.
For kids who need to answer via eye gaze or an augmented communication device, we also offer these plain letter cards for free. They are perfect for using with hook-and-loop dots on felt boards, communication devices, and more!

Another Fun Way To Use These Alphabet Clip Cards
If your kiddos have had their fill of the clip cards, cut the lowercase letters off the bottom and use the cards for a fun scavenger hunt instead. To accomplish this, hide the cards with the uppercase letters around the room. I would choose 5-10 letters to work with at a time.
Then, shuffle the matching lowercase letter cards that you cut off the bottom, and allow the student to pick one. Once they have their lowercase card, send it off to the hut for the matching uppercase letter.
