Fox Letter Matching Clip Cards Printable For Kids

These adorable fox letter matching clip cards are a fun way to teach the alphabet, including uppercase and lowercase letters. What starts as a low-prep printable transforms into a hands-on game that is sure to keep young learners engaged.

Letter A: Fox letter matching clip cards.

Setting Up  the Fox Letter Matching Clip Cards

Getting started is a snap! Begin by printing the clip card set. Each card features a cute fox holding an uppercase letter and two or three lowercase letter choices displayed at the bottom.

Next, cut out the individual cards. They print four to a page. You can save time by stacking several pages together while cutting. For a more durable version, print on heavy cardstock or laminate the cards so they can be reused again and again.

Once prepped, shuffle the cards and place them face down or spread them out across a table. Each child will need a handful of clothespins, mini clips, or small tokens to use as markers.

How to Play

To use the clip cards, the kids will pick a card, identify the uppercase letter the fox is holding, and say it out loud. Then, they will find the matching lowercase letter on the bottom of the card and mark it with a clip.

For even deeper learning, you can have your students identify the letter sounds too. For vowels, you can challenge learners to name both the short and long sounds.

Adaptation and Differentiation

All learners are unique, and this activity is easy to adapt based on ability and needs. The card set includes two levels of difficulty—choose cards with just two choices for beginners, or use the cards with three lowercase options for more of a challenge.

Due to fine motor difficulties, some students may find it difficult to manipulate the clips. For these kiddos, you can have them use dot markers, bingo daubers, or dry-erase markers instead. Of course, the pages will need to be laminated to use this option.

You can also make the activity more inclusive by turning the cards into visual matching games for non-verbal learners using felt boards, Velcro dots, or communication switches.

Another Fun Way to Use This Activity

When you are ready to shake things up in the classroom, you can repurpose this printable into a fun letter hunt game.

Begin by cutting the lowercase letters off the bottom of the cards to make individual letter cards. Next, hide the uppercase fox cards around the room.

To play, hand each student a lowercase letter card and challenge them to hunt for the uppercase match somewhere in the room.

This letter scavenger hunt version adds movement, excitement, and an extra layer of learning. It makes a great group activity, especially on a rainy day.
