How to Set Up and Use the Candy Corn Number Recognition Games
To get set up, print and laminate (if desired) the board games. Laminating helps with long-term durability, but it’s just as easy to reprint a fresh board in a cute new theme as needed. Reprinting definitely helps to cut down on plastic in landfills.
These games are ideal for small groups of 2 to 4 players. If you have more students, feel free to print multiple copies.
To start the game, have all the children place their game pawns on or near the “START” space. You can choose who goes first by having everyone roll the die to see who gets the highest number. Or, you can totally just let the oldest/youngest child go first.
Next, have the first player roll the die and move her pawn the correct number of spaces. Then, she will identify the number in the space out loud. Continue rotating through the players for the duration of the game.
The game ends when one of the players reaches the “END” space. If you want to play less competitively, you can allow all the players to finish before ending the game.

Adapting the Activity For Varying Needs
This printable comes in 3 convenient levels so you can meet your students where they are. For new learners, there is a 1-10 game board. For more advanced students, there are game boards for 11-20 and 1-20.
If fine motor tasks are a challenge for some students, you can adapt the game pieces by adding a bolster to the top. This small adjustment can make a big difference in allowing children to move their pieces independently. You may still have to help them position the pawn upright on the space at the end of each turn.
